After becoming only the third player in UL women's basketball history to score 39 points in a game, Mercedes Johnson has been tabbed the Sun Belt Conference Player of the week.

University of Louisiana Women's BasketballIt was the first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor for the sophomore forward.

For the week, Johnson averaged 25.0 points and 11.0 rebounds.

Last Wednesday against FAU, Johnson could not be stopped, as her scoring kept the Cajuns in the game.  Johnson scored 25 points in the second half en route to a career-high 39.  Her previous career-best was 22 points vs. Lamar on Nov. 27, 2009 that she later tied on Dec. 31, 2009 at Western Kentucky.

She also racked up 16 rebounds, tying her career high from earlier this season.

The last Cajuns player to score more than 39 points in a game was the legendary Kim Perrot, who tallied 42 points on four different occasions during her senior season of 1989-90 - the season in which she led the nation in scoring.

She backed up the performance, reaching double figures again at South Alabama on Saturday. Against the Jaguars, she scored 11 points.
