University of Louisiana Soccer vs. Stephen F. Austin bullet Box Score

Senior captain Courtney Hofland scored her second goal in as many games, but it was not enough as the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (1-0-0) were able claim a 3-1 victory over Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns (0-1-1) at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer and Track Facility on Sunday.

Stephen F. Austin was able to strike first, scoring at the 28:28 mark. Kim Kimmel scored after an assist by Kylie Louw for an early 1-0 lead.

But it did not take long before UL was able to knot the score, 1-1, after Hofland was able to find the back of the net in the 37th minute of the first half. Stephen F. Austin's defense misplayed a pass outside the box and Hofland was able to capitalize, ripping a shot from nearly 20 yards out in front of the goal. It was the senior's second goal of the season and 17th of her career.

The Ladyjacks were able to reclaim the lead late in the match when Breanne Vernon scored from the top of the box during the 79th minute. Four minutes later, Vernon found the back net again to give the Ladyjacks the 3-1 win.

Stephen F. Austin was able to outshoot the Cajuns, 25-5 with 12 shots on goal, compared to UL's 2. Hofland led the Ragin' Cajuns with two shots on the afternoon and Kennedy Richards, Kayla Henrie and Carleigh Martin had one shot a piece.

Amanda Moorefield (0-1-1) picked up her first loss of the 2009 season after playing all 90 mintues in the net and recorded six saves.

Next week, the Cajuns will travel to Tulsa, Okla. to take on the Golden Hurricane on Friday evening at 7:35 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Louisiana will face Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. For a match scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CT.
