Lafayette -- The College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) announced their 2009 Academic All-District teams and Louisiana’s Ashley Brignac was named to the first team.

Ashley Brignace, Ragin' Cajuns Softball, University of LouisianaBrignac, a sophomore from River Ridge, La., has excelled on and off of the field, boasting a 4.0 grade point average. She saw limited action returning from an off-season injury but made an impact, nonetheless. After surrendering a pair of earned runs in her first outing, she has not allowed an earned run in 59.1 consecutive innings of work (10 appearances). Brignac’s only two losses came in a pair of games in which the opposition scored an unearned run. She boasted a team and conference best 0.23 ERA, allowing no earned runs in Sun Belt Conference play.

On the season, Brignac has made 11 appearances with 10 games started, eight complete games with five shutouts and a combined shutout. She has struck out 88 batters for a 9.9 strikeout per game average. The sophomore has three double-digit strikeout efforts on the year with a career-high 16 strikeouts against NCAA Regional participant Louisiana Tech. Brignac has held opponents to a .119 batting average and tossed a no-hitter of San Diego State. She went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA at Judi Garman Classic, striking out 13 batters against No. 24 Fresno State and leading all pitchers at the tournament with 12 batters struck out looking in only two appearances.

CoSIDA will select an Academic All-American team from the members of the first district Academic All-District teams. If selected, Brignac will be the first Cajuns’ player named Academic All-American since Brooke Mitchell (2002-05) earned the honor in 2004 and 2005.
