New Orleans LA - The Sun Belt Conference has named UL tennis player Piotr Banas men's tennis player of the week.

It is the second men's player to be named player of the week for the Cajuns this season, as Javier Pulgar-Garcia won the award in February. Banas is a junior from Warsaw, Poland and has played outstanding this year.

Banas had an outstanding week for the Cajuns, going 4-0, all from the number one position in the line-up. He claimed all four matches in straight sets and did not allow an opponent to win more than three games in a set. Additionally, Banas, along with doubles partner Piotr Olechowski, went 3-1 over the week as well. He had his hand in seven points for the Cajuns who won all four matches. With his four wins he has extended his win streak to eight with seven of the victories coming from the number one position. Banas improved his singles record to 11-1 on the season.

FIU’s Liset Brito was named player of the week for the women. She is ranked #125 nationally, recorded perhaps her biggest victory of the season, upsetting No. 34-ranked Gira Schofield in three sets last Friday, as the Golden Panthers upended No. 33-ranked South Carolina. It was the second win in four tries against a ranked opponent for Brito. The sophomore leads FIU with 14 singles wins, 12 of those at the No. 1 position. Entering this weekend’s match against Louisiana-Lafayette, she has won five straight and nine of her last 10 matches for the 12-5 Golden Panthers.
