UL's Associate Athletic Director talks about the real reason that Ragin' Cajuns athletics exists.

Earlier this semester, Ragin' Cajuns Athletics boasted the academic accomplishments of our athletes. Tell us a little more about that.

We're having great successes in athletics here at UL; it's human nature to become impatient, which is why it's so important to look at where we are, and where our peers are.

And while we're doing that, we need to remember why we're here. We're a University, and universities are about educating young women and men, and preparing mentally.

Well, UL is doing a great job at that, and it gets overlooked. 173 of our 385 athletes-- almost half-- made a 3.0 or better last semester.

21 of them-- 5%-- made a 4.0. That's phenomenal.

Of those 4.0's, 16 were women, and one of them was Ashley Brignac, who recently pitched a perfect game against IUPUI. A perfect GPA, and a perfect game. That says a lot about our University, its athletics, its administration, and the community who support us.

Data from the Athletics Department:

Combined:
173 student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or better during the Fall Semesetr. That represents 45% of all student-athletes achieving this honor.
