The Ragin’ Cajuns golf team had a good first day at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, and sit in second place headed into the final round at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course located on N.C. State's Centennial Campus in Raleigh, N.C.

“I am extremely proud of the way the team showed mental discipline today,” head golf coach Theo Sliman said. “The golf course here is very demanding and difficult. We have already shown that we have the physical talent to play with the best. Today showed us that we have the mental aspect as well.”

After finishing the morning round in second place at five-over par (289), the team was able to maintain its position by posting a second round score of 285 to finish the day at six-over par (574) through 36 holes.

The Cajuns trail tournament leader Memphis (+3, 571) by just three strokes going into the final round.

“We are in the final group for the third straight event,” Sliman added. “Our team philosophy all year has been to learn and apply, and here we have a perfect chance to do just that.”

Austrian teammates Philipp Fendt and Chris Weninger lead the Cajuns after day one sitting in the top-10 as they are both tied for seventh overall at one-under par (141).

Yohann Vora sits just outside of the top-10 after shooting 72-72 to finish the day +2 in a tie for 12th overall. Brandt Garon (148) and Andrew Noto (153) close out the scoring for UL.

Campbell (575), UNC-Greensboro (576) and East Carolina (577) round out the top-5, while UNCG’s Robert Hoadley sits atop the leaderboard at 5-under.

The Cajuns will tee off again on Tuesday morning in the final round of the tournament.
