Led by UL first baseman and championship offensive MVP Chase Compton, the Oneonta Outlaws are 2011 champions of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Although the Outlaws finished the regular season in 2nd place in the East Division, they ripped through the playoffs without a loss.

As offensive MVP, Compton won the won the coveted Bob Bellizzi Big Stick Award. He led the Outlaws with three hits, two doubles and three RBI during the championship series.  He made the NYCBL all-star game as the League’s 10th best hitter in the regular season with a .351 batting average. He posted a .440 slugging percentage, drove in 24 runs, and reached base at a .386 clip. In 12 of his final 14 games, he got at least one hit in 12 of them, while batting .372 (19-51) with 16 RBI.

Outlaws coach Greg Zackrison felt that Compton had possibly made more progress in one summer than any player he had ever seen. "I cannot speak high enough about Chase," Zackrison said. "He’s got all of the makings of a kid that can make it at the next level.”

Teammate Bryan Galligan (Stonehill College) was named defensive MVP for his Game 1 pitching performance. Galligan pitched a complete game, striking out ten, walking three, and scattering four hits.

The Outlaws won their first two games in the two out of three series over Webster by identical scores of 5-1. Strong pitching and timely offense keyed the Outlaws playoff run and continued in the championship series versus Webster.  Artie Lewicki (Virginia) struck out four, walked three, and allowed four hits over seven innings. The only blemish was an unearned run in the third inning giving the Yankees a short-lived 1-0 lead. An RBI double by Outlaw Chase Compton (Louisiana) in the bottom of the fourth tied the game. The Outlaws took the lead for good with a two-run fifth and scored two more runs in the sixth giving Oneonta its first title and second in franchise history (2006, Saratoga).
