Houston TX - The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns rebounded from an opening round 301 to post a scorecard of four-over par in the afternoon round to finish the day in seventh place at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas.

Louisiana began the day on a sour not posting a 13-over par round of 301. Despite the uncharacteristic round, the Cajuns were in ninth place and just 10 strokes off the lead.

In afternoon action, the Cajuns trimmed nine strokes off of their team score to post a four-over par round of 292. The improvement moved UL up to spots on the leaderboard into seventh place.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are 18 strokes off of tournament leader Houston, but are just seven strokes out of second place.

Louisiana placed three Cajuns in the top 25 leaderboard with Kyle Pritchard, Devin Carrey and Thomas Petts.

Pritchard opened the day with a five-over par round of 77, but shaved eight strokes off of his afternoon round for a three-under par round of 69. The San Antonio native’s score placed him in a tie for 10th place after one day of competition. His second round score was Pritchard’s first round this season in the 60s and bested his low-round of 70, which he set earlier in the year at the Squire Creek Invitational. The sub-par round was Pritchard’s third of the season.

Carrey was consistent on the day turning in scorecards of 74 and 73 on the day. The senior’s three-over par cumulative score was good enough for a tie for 17th. Carrey posted the second lowest score in each round of the tournament.

Petts finished day one of the Rice Intercollegiate in a tie for 24th. Petts posted the Cajuns’ low score for round one with his one-over par round of 73. In the afternoon round, he gave back some strokes, but still managed to card a respectable round of 76.

Freshmen Andrew Noto and Philipp Fendt rounded out the scoring for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Noto improved five strokes from round one (79) to round two (74) to finish his day in the top 50 (T-46). Fendt posted back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish one stroke behind his fellow rookie in a tie for 53rd.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will conclude play in the Rice Intercollegiate on Tuesday as they play the final 18 holes of the tournament.
