Lafayette LA -- For the third consecutive year, MidSouth Bancorp, Inc.(NYSE Amex: MSL), headed by RCAF Board Member Rusty Cloutier, has been named to the prestigious Russell 3000 Index. MidSouth was one of only two Louisiana banks to make the list.

The bank's common stock was again added to the Russell 3000 Index in connection with Russell's final annual index reconstitution on June 24th. The Index is constructed to provide a comprehensive, unbiased, and stable barometer of the overall market and is completely reconstituted each year to ensure new and growing equities are reflected.

Last year three Louisiana banks made the list, but this year MidSouth was one of only two. "Making the cut for three consecutive years validates the value MidSouth Bancorp, Inc. has for its shareholders and the investment community as a whole," President and CEO Rusty Cloutier said. "It is especially gratifying that we are in such elite company in the state, to receive this vote of confidence."

Launched in 1984, the Russell 3000 is a broad index that attempts to capture the return of the overall market. Because of its wide diversification and large number of holdings, the Russell 3000—which has very stringent requirements—often makes for a popular alternative to the Wilshire 5000 total market index.

The Russell 3000 Index measures the market capitalization of 3,000 of the largest and most liquid companies in the country, approximately 98 percent of the total value of all equity traded on U.S. exchanges. Typically index-oriented investment funds (mutual and exchange-traded) buy shares of companies in the index to keep their portfolios reflective of the Russell 3000.
