New Orleans - The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns golf team opened up the spring season at the Mardi Gras Invitational and finished day one of the tournament in 10th place.

The Cajuns opened up the day with a team score of 312, but shaved 14 strokes off their second round to post a 298 in the afternoon. The Ragin’ Cajuns finished day one with a combined score of 610 and in 10th place overall.

“I was a disappointed at how we started the day,” head coach Theo Sliman commented. “But I was extremely proud of how we finished the day. The guys battled hard and managed to lower their scores.

“What I want to see from the guys tomorrow is an all around team effort. I feel like if we come out tomorrow and play like a team, then we can make a move and close out the tournament with our heads held high.”

Leading the way for the Cajuns was Devin Carrey. The senior posted an opening round of 77, but trimmed nine strokes off of his afternoon score to post a four under-par round of 68. After tying for 31st after one round, Carrey recorded six birdies in his afternoon round to move up 27 places and into fourth place.

Philipp Fendt was consistent in his two rounds, posting rounds of 76 and 77, respectively.

Kyle Pritchard opened the day with a round of 82, but shaved eight strokes off of his afternoon round to finish strong. Pritchard bogeyed the final hole of the day to finish two-over par with a 74.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were Dustin Petit and Thomas Petts. Petit posted rounds of 78 and 79, while Petts put together rounds of 81 and 79.

The Cajuns will conclude play in the Mardi Gras Invitational on Tuesday.
