In 2002, UL alum Craig Perks provided the biggest surprise in the entire history of The Players Championship.  New Zealand's Perks, ranked only 203rd in the world at the time, won the tournament. Perks never won again and retired in 2007, but the way he finished the tournament is one for the golf annals.

On the 16th hole, Perks first chipped in for eagle, and took the lead. On the 17th, he sank a 25-foot birdie putt.

On the last hole, he chipped into the hole for a par, complete one of the most exciting 3-hole finishes in gold.  The chip gave him the Tournament by two strokes over Stephen Ames.

As no less that Tiger Wood says in this video, "To watch on TV here, and watch what Craig did... you're unbelievable."
