Oliver Batiste Jr., son of Kathleen and Oliver Batiste, Sr. of Carencro, has been named this year’s Outstanding Graduate of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions.  Batiste has earned a 3.49 cumulative GPA and is the recipient of several scholarships including the Lafayette General Medical Center Auxiliary, the Amy Marie St. Julien Dalcour in Nursing, UL Black Faculty and Staff Caucus Academic Excellence, the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Intake, the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church Young Group and the UL New Greek Man of the Year.

He has also been involved with the National Pan-Hellenic Council, where he served as Treasurer, Student Orientation Staff, UL Residence Hall Staff, Graduate Student and International Student Hall Director and was named Rising Male Star.

Upon graduation, Batiste intends on moving to Dallas, Texas to work as a registered nurse in a critical care residency program. He would like to bridge the gap between nursing and the hard biomedical sciences through collaborative involvement.

A total of eight students will be honored as the UL Alumni Association’s Outstanding Graduates from their respective academic colleges. Each semester deans from the eight academic colleges nominate a student as an Outstanding Graduate based on leadership, scholarship and service. A selection committee with the Alumni Association interviews each candidate and selects one for the overall award.

The overall winner will be announced during the General Assembly Commencement on May 14 at the Cajundome. The event starts at 9 AM.
