Yanick Mandl defeated the Bears' No. 2 player Jordan Rux but it was not enough as Louisiana men's tennis team fell to No. 7 Baylor, 6-1, in the season opener.  After dropping the first set 3-6, Mandl rallied 6-2, 6-3 to win the match.

A particularly encouraging note is that UL's Carlin Murray, playing from the No.1 spot, took BU's top player John Peers to a tie-break in the first set (6-7 (5-7)), won the second set (6-3) but eventually fell in the final set (1-6).

The rest of the squad, in the first action of the year, was swept in singles play.

Three freshmen made their first collegiate appearance in the season opener. Brandon Fairne fell 3-6, 2-6. Ted Nilsson lost 3-6, 1-6 while Louisiana-native Elliot Minvielle was defeated 0-6, 2-6.

Tennessee Tech transfer Oscar Pachon rounded out the action with a 1-6, 1-6 loss.

Murray and Nilsson put up a fight in the doubles but fell in a tie break (7-8 (3-7)).

The matches were moved indoors after inclement weather in the Waco, Texas area.
