Last Meeting Against Troy (Apr. 18-19, 2009)
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team needed two days to complete game two of the series with Troy and then needed nine innings in game three, but completed the Sun Belt Conference series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.
The Cajuns concluded game two with a 9-1 mercy-rule victory before claiming a 4-3 win in nine innings in the series finale.  With the sweep, Louisiana remains atop the Sun Belt Conference standings tied with Western Kentucky in the loss column.
Christi Orgeron finished the weekend with a .636 batting average, with seven hits including three home runs, a grand slam, a double and seven RBI.
In the circle for the Cajuns this weekend, Donna Bourgeois and Brittany Cuevas were nearly perfect.  Bourgeois recorded two victories with a 1.08 ERA on the weekend.  She struck out 12 batters in 13.0 innings of work.  Not to be out done, Cuevas fanned 11 batters in 8.0 innings of relief for her win.  She had a perfect 0.00 earned run average.

Last Time Out... vs.FAU (Apr. 20-21)
The Cajuns' bats roughed up the Owls in the day's first game, scattering 14 hits and holding on to a 6-4 victory.
Cuevas started the contest, proving why she was named last week's Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week. Through three innings the senior hurler fanned six batters and retired the first eight Owls in a row.
The Cajuns did all of their damage in the third inning scoring six runs on six hits.
Junior pitcher Donna Bourgeois tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts in the nightcap.
The Cajuns jumped out on the Owls again in the night cap during the first inning. UL loaded the bases on three singles and eventually scored on a two-out, RBI-single by Britni Soria.
But the Owls were able to erase the deficit with a two-out, two-run homer by Kerri Croney in the top of the third.
UL responded with a two-out, two-run home run of their own by Gabriele Bridges. It was Bridges' 12th deep-ball of the season.
On Wednesday, a strong defensive showing and error-free softball proved to be the difference as Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team edged out Florida Atlantic, 1-0.
Louisiana is now 31-14 overall and 12-3 in the Sun Belt, stretching their win-streak to a season-best eight games. FAU falls to 21-23 and 6-8 in the league.
Both team struggled to take advantage of runners on base, with UL stranding seven and FAU left six of their own.
The Cajuns' sole run came off a homer by Christi Orgeron.

Career Outing
Junior pitcher Donna Bourgeois had a career showing in Tuesday's 4-2 win over FAU. In seven innings of work, she tied a career-high of 14 strikeouts, 12 of which caught the batters swinging.
It is the third time in her career she has reached the mark.

The Hits Keep Coming
Senior slapper Vallie Gaspard has been a serious threat at the plate over the last 12 games.
In every contest, she has recorded a hit and posted multiple hits in six of the games.

Behind the Mask
Senior pitcher Brittany Cuevas put together one of the best week of the season grabbing three wins in three appearances and claimed her fifth career Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week award.
In 19.0 innings pitched, she struck out 19 batters. Against McNeese, she struck out nine and on Sunday against the Jaguars struck out eight. She allowed just two runs for the week, holding USA scoreless for 11.2 innings before surrendering a run in the top of the seventh on Sunday.

Draheim Does It Again
Since finding herself in the starting lineup, freshman Sarah Draheim has made the most of her opportunities.
So far this season she has come up twice for the Cajuns, swinging the score in their favor.
Most recently against South Alabama, she knocked in the winning run, breaking a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The freshman also showed up for the Cajuns in the 9-4 win over FIU. Down 4-5 in the fifth inning, Drahiem hit her first career home run, sparking a rally as the Cajuns won the contest 9-5.

Hit Parade
UL has recorded double digit hits in 18 games this season. The Cajuns are 15-3 when posting hits in double figures.
The team's season high of 17 hits came against Middle Tennessee (4/7).
Against McNeese (4/14) every Cajun that stepped into the batter's box got a hit as the Cajuns' finished with 14 on the night.

Seeing Green
Melissa Verde had an exceptional weekend against FIU.
The senior infielder batted .583 with four doubles, six RBI and a .917 slugging percentage.
In the 9-4 win over FIU, Verde was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.

Bowers Power
Senior Lana Bowers proved vital to UL's two wins over Middle Tennessee.
On Tuesday, Bowers hit two solo homers, including the game-winner in the eighth inning to clinch a 2-1 win.
On Wednesday, trailing 1-4, Bowers belted a three-run shot to centerfield to tie the score at 4-4. The Cajuns would go on to win 10-4.
Bowers finished the series going 7-for-11 with a .636 batting average and six RBI. Four of her seven hits were for extra bases and led to a 1.545 slugging percentage.

Bourgeois Earns LSWA Weekly Honor
After grabbing two wins against Western Kentucky this past weekend, Louisiana's Donna Bourgeois was selected as Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Pitcher of the Week Thursday as voted upon by the state's sports information directors. Louisiana State's Rachel Mitchell was named LSWA Hitter of the Week.
The junior pitcher for the Cajuns grabbed two wins over WKU during UL's Sun Belt opening series. She posted an impressive 0.50 ERA and surrendered just three runs, one earned, in addition to limiting the Lady Toppers to a .161 hitting clip. The Lafayette native also compiled 10 strikeouts against one walk in over 14.0 innings of work.
In 2009, Bourgeois was named the LWSA Pitcher of the Year.

Forty-five games down and the Ragin' Cajuns have belted 44 home runs. Christi Orgeron leads the way with 15, Gabriele Bridges has 12 and five other players have sent one out of the park.
Bridges and Orgeron are currently ranked  at the top in the nation for homers this season.
Under co-head coach Michael Lotief, the Cajuns have averaged 71.89 HRs since 2001. The school record for most home runs in a season was set during the 2007 season after the Cajuns smashed a whopping 106 deep balls.
Last season, UL hit 50 home runs.

Shutout Drought
After some quality pitching against Houston from Brittany Cuevas and Donna Bourgeois, the Cajuns were able to record back-to-back, seven-inning shutouts.
It was the first time in 27 games that the Cajuns used all seven innings to blank the opposition. The last time the Cajuns shutout an opponent in a complete game was against Syracuse in the 24th Annual Louisiana Classics (9-0, Feb.13, 2010).
Both pitchers have four shutout wins under their belts this season.

Road Warriors
The Cajuns have spent a majority of the season on the road this year as Lamson Park undergoes a $2.1 million renovation.
UL played nine games at home through the season's first 32 games.
The Cajuns will closeout the season playing eight of its last 11 games at home
