A Stroke of Marketing Genius

The Interscholastic and Oratorical Association of Southwest Louisiana was Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute (now The University of Louisiana) through and through.The I.O.A.S.L. was a stroke of genius by President E. L.Stevens of UL (then SLII). The Association was designed as a recruiting tool, a marketing tool. He knew interest in athletics would expose the high schools of Southwestern Louisiana (and their students) to the opportunities of higher education at SLII.

Before coming to UL, Ted Kozman was Project Director for the largest superconductor magnets ever built. He now teaches at UL, and advises Louisiana industry on how to make their facilities more energy efficient. He directs The Industrial Assessment Center, which was just named a National Center of Excellence by the US Department of Energy.

UL's Honors Program is the largest in Louisiana, and perennially sweeps awards at the state's annual Honors Convocation, including the Quiz Bowl Trophy.
