Shooting Team Finishes #17 at Nationals

Louisiana placed 17th out of 38 colleges this year, against approximately 295 shooters. UL's two best events were the 5 Stand, where the Cajuns placed 9th; and Sporting Clays, 10th.

Before coming to UL, Ted Kozman was Project Director for the largest superconductor magnets ever built. He now teaches at UL, and advises Louisiana industry on how to make their facilities more energy efficient. He directs The Industrial Assessment Center, which was just named a National Center of Excellence by the US Department of Energy.

ultoday.com interviewed Dr. Stokes, the man charged with developing and directing the Cecil J. Picard Center for Child Development, soon to begin construction in the UL Research Park. In the first half of the interview, Dr. Stokes talks about the progress of the Center to date.

UL's Honors Program is the largest in Louisiana, and perennially sweeps awards at the state's annual Honors Convocation, including the Quiz Bowl Trophy. As is true of so many of UL's programs, Honors is built from, and on, a very different foundation than traditional universities use, one of service and inclusion: to the students it serves, to the University as a whole, to the community, and to the world.

A few years ago, a student stepped up to work towards making the UL "Horse Farm" a public park for the whole community. While a fierce argument raged through the community, fueled by divisive media commentary, the student heading the effort was meeting politely with President Authément, who welcomed both the student activism and the independence of thought and diversity of opinion, with the open-mindedness, tolerance, and collegiality that the life of the mind demands.
