2008 Hot & Spicy Golf Tournament Monday May 5

Squirrel Run Golf Club in New Iberia will host the 5th Annual UL Ragin' Cajuns Hot & Spicy Golf Tournament. The fundraiser generates funds for all UL athletic programs.

All proceeds benefit UL athletic recruiting for all sports. In the first four years the tournament has collected over $135,000, with each year breaking prior donation records.

Every entrant will receive a Ditty Bag with valuable merchandise (including a TABASCO® brand Products Ragin’Cajuns “HOT & SPICY” GOLF CLASSIC Shirt, and other items).

Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 finishing teams, for closest to the hole, longest drive and Hole in One Auto Giveaway (sponsored by Musson Patout and Lapeyrouse Motors).

There will be a Golf Club Raffle (donated by Squirrel Run Golf Club), and a Silent Auction will also be held by ticket purchase or bid.

Breakfast (7:00 AM to 11:00 AM) will include Eggs TABASCO® brand Products Breakfast Sandwiches and TABASCO® brand Products Bloody Mary’s will be prepared and served by TABASCO® brand Products.

Lunch (11:30 AM to 1:30 PM) will include barbecue chicken, rice dressing, baked beans, potato salad, bread and chocolate chip cookies will be prepared and served by TABASCO® brand Products.

Dinner (5:00 PM to 6:30 PM) will be provided by Quizno’s of New Iberia & Charlie G's.

On-Course Food will be provided by Acadiana Security Plus, Health Care Resources, Community First Bank, Allied Waste Services, and IBERIABANK

Beverages will be provided by Acadiana Bottling.

Currently in some circles there is this "new" idea, that education should serve workforce development. In this approach, the primary role of education is to produce workers for the economy-- in essence, employees. Not surprisingly, these arguments generally come from the business community.

Such an approach appears to be insufficient. First of all, if we are engaged in workforce development, then what workers are we developing? For which job shall we train workers? There is a popular slide show claiming that today's graduate will hold 10 to 14 jobs by age 38. What will those jobs be? And even if we knew what they would be, we couldn't possibly train for that many jobs. For which of them should we train our workers?
